We’re hiring a Research Analyst!

Rock Health

Note: This role is based in our office in San Francisco.

You’re amped to be a thought leader in digital health and represent Rock Health in writing and onstage. You’re drawn to the thorniest challenges in healthcare—and feel just as confident in an Excel spreadsheet as you would interviewing an entrepreneur for a podcast. You show perseverance on long-term projects, always driving toward new, counterintuitive insights while managing detailed work plans. Most importantly, you believe Rock Health can move the needle on healthcare innovation by synthesizing the experiences of entrepreneurs, investors, and enterprise leaders—and by driving change across the ecosystem through the sharing of market insights, opportunities, and best practices.

We’re hiring a Research Analyst to support our goal of educating the digital health ecosystem. Since our founding, we’ve accumulated a wealth of data and unparalleled insights into the digital health landscape. This allows us to not only make meaningful investments in healthcare technology companies through our venture arm, but also produce rigorous research reports on trends in digital health funding and innovation. These reports are collaboratively produced through extensive expert interviews, surveys, and secondary research. Recent study topics have addressed how AI and machine learning will transform healthcare, overcoming enterprise sales challenges, and venture funding and exit activity.

The Analyst will participate across all research activities, including scoping projects, data collection and analysis, interviewing subject matter experts, creating content, and delivering presentations. Research studies can range anywhere from one to six months and the content is disseminated through a variety of channels: directly to our enterprise partners and portfolio companies at Rock Health events, through the Rock Weekly newsletter, our podcast, webinars, in-person presentations, website, and university courses, among other channels.

The Analyst will work on at least two long-term research studies throughout the year, as well as support a number of shorter-term deliverables such as venture funding analyses, market scans, company landscapes, and custom projects. The job responsibilities will vary across projects, though the Analyst can expect to contribute the following:

  • Serve as a thought partner to the Director of Research, keeping your finger constantly on the pulse of new innovation, companies and partnerships in digital health
  • Collaborate on setting Rock Health’s annual research agenda
  • Partner with the Director of Research to plan and design thoughtful research initiatives from concept to final presentation
  • Generate insights and identify best practice recommendations from primary and secondary research, which includes literature reviews and interviews of subject matter experts
  • Expand, refine, and surface digital health trends from our proprietary datasets on investment and entrepreneurship
  • Create research collateral, including marketing materials, Keynote presentations, and written reports
  • Represent Rock Health at events and share content with our partner companies
  • Collaborate across the Rock Health team:
    • Partner with Marketing to maximize the impact of content distribution and innovate on new channels and content formats
    • Partner with Partnerships to maximize the value of research to our corporate partners
    • Partner with Programs to ensure research guides the content and topics covered at our annual events
    • Partner with Venture to ensure research findings inform our investment thesis and decisions
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to manage projects and deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Strong intellectual curiosity; motivated to doggedly pursue the “right answer”
  • Ability to synthesize information of varying types and from multiple sources into strategic insights
  • Comfort with ambiguity, and experience creatively solving problems when faced with unstructured topics and questions
  • Has conducted long-term research involving primary and secondary content sources
  • Qualitative and quantitative analytic skills
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets use and experience mining data to surface compelling takeaways
  • Experience with statistical/analytics software programs such as Tableau, Python, R, SAS, and/or Stata is a major plus
  • Adept at producing written deliverables at a client-facing caliber, with close attention to detail
  • Experience with designing presentation materials and data visualization (preferably using Keynote)
  • Confident communicating effectively with healthcare leaders, in both oral and written formats
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Loves working on a collaborative team

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Stellar academic record
  • 1-3 years work experience, ideally in a consulting, strategy, venture or research role
  • Experience working in healthcare, and ideally in health tech
  • Two-year expected commitment
  • Ability to work from Rock Health’s office in San Francisco
