What motivated you to pursue your current work?
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2014 and have been managing my condition ever since. When I first started, I was alone and had no idea how to navigate care and manage treatment. That experience inspired me to work for the market leader, ResMed, to help patients like myself. Yet despite great treatment options, the reality is more sleep apnea patients have failed treatment than succeeded. The options are there, yet providers and patients still struggle to find success. We’re on a mission to change that and help every patient sleep successfully and live fully.
What distinct value does your work bring to the digital health field?
Sleep is foundational to our health. If we’re going to tackle society’s health problems, then we have to fix the foundation and fix our sleep. Our work is connecting the dots between digital biomarkers and effective interventions to identify the personalized care plan that every patient needs to get their sleep back. We’re not just working to drive success in treating chronic sleep disorders but also ensure a patient’s sleep is helping drive better health outcomes across disease states.
How does your work impact your target end-users or stakeholders?
By connecting patients to their sleep data and a dedicated care team, we empower them to understand and manage their condition. From finding the right treatment to finding motivation, our psychosocial support engages patients with their treatment and supports improved health outcomes. At the same time, we’re empowering providers with the data and the tools needed to manage these chronic sleep disorders over time and at scale.
What is one exciting update or near-term opportunity that you would like to share with the digital health community?
We’re excited about the opportunity to integrate artificial intelligence into sleep disorder management. This breakthrough enables predictive analytics to tailor treatment plans more accurately and efficiently than ever before. By harnessing the power of AI, we can now anticipate patient needs, optimize treatment outcomes, and significantly reduce the time it takes for patients to see improvements. This innovation represents a leap for the digital health community in making personalized, data-driven care a reality for those suffering from sleep disorders.
