Aberdare Doubles Down on Digital Health

We are excited to share the news that Aberdare Ventures, a founding Rock Health partner, today announced that Mohit Kaushal has joined the firm as a partner. Kaushal will focus on Aberdare’s investments in technologies and services to drive healthcare efficiency.

We spoke with Kaushal on Monday, and he told us, “I’m very excited to be joining the Aberdare team and look forward to working with great entrepreneurs, great companies, and great technologies that really want to disrupt the landscape.  I’m happy to be back in Silicon Valley, the epicenter of many exciting developments in this space.”

San Diego’s loss is San Francisco’s gain. An MD and MBA by training, Kaushal was most recently the Chief Strategy Officer at West Health. Previously, he was the Director of Connected Health with the FCC, where he established the agency’s first dedicated healthcare team.

Founded in 1999, Aberdare has been involved in seeding and accelerating multiple companies that have achieved market values exceeding $1 billion. Its investment thesis is focused around “transformational” healthcare companies, with a growing emphasis on services, IT-enabled services, smart devices, and personalized medicine.  The addition of Kaushal signifies the firm’s ongoing commitment to digital health.

In 2012, Aberdare Ventures was the most active digital health venture capital investor with 5 deals, not including its investment in Rock Health’s portfolio.  Some of its portfolio companies include GoBalto, Jiff, MC10, RxAnte, and ElationEMR.

Along with this news, Aberdare has also updated its website. We think it looks pretty slick; check it out.
