Notes from the Hill
Over the last several months, the new administration has been overhauling policies across the board, in part to speed up innovation. Fast forward to last week: the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) unveiled a bold agenda to turbocharge evidence-based disease prevention with digital health tools. From asynchronous care platforms to mobile apps, the plan emphasizes tech that expands care access, supports daily disease management, and improves data transparency. Simultaneously, the FDA announced plans to roll out genAI to expedite reviews agency-wide. But exactly how these plans will unfold alongside cost-cutting initiatives remains uncertain. For example, proposed Medicaid changes could impact coverage for the very populations innovation intends to reach. The new administration’s calls for further deregulation come amid industry pushes for greater guidelines and regulations for AI, heightening the importance of private sector collaboration to chart a path forward. As healthcare regulation finds its rhythm, one thing is certain: innovation may be leading the chorus—but regulation will set the tempo.
