Tackling mental health’s supply and demand conundrum

If you, like some of us at Rock Health, are amongst the #languishing class, let’s consider ourselves lucky. According to recent data from the CDC, 30% of U.S. adults are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression. So it’s not surprising that last week saw big news for digital mental health. Cigna announced plans to provide Ginger as an in-network benefit for its 14 million covered lives, which came on the heels of NOCD’s partnership with Tridiuum, a mental health provider platform, to make specialty treatment more accessible.

Given our recent dive into key trends in behavioral health, we’re particularly intrigued by Amwell’s reveal of Converge. The new open architecture telehealth platform will provide Amwell’s existing and future enterprise clients access to a spectrum of digital health applications. Amidst the debate regarding big generalist digital mental health companies versus narrower condition-specific applications, consolidation through integration on a single code base could bring the best of both worlds: whole-person care for people suffering from everyday or complex behavioral health conditions.
