Org Info: Seven Starling is a digital platform making high-quality mental healthcare more accessible throughout the motherhood journey. With specialized therapy, peer support, and medication management, Seven Starling uses the most effective, proven methods to treat common maternal mental health conditions like postpartum depression and anxiety.
What motivated you to pursue your current work?
More than 1 in 5 women experience anxiety or depression in the prenatal period, and 75% of those suffering from these conditions don’t receive treatment. Without necessary treatment, these mental health conditions can lead to worse birth outcomes, negatively impact an infant’s development, and delay or prevent working mothers from returning to the workplace, which contributes to an additional $14B in healthcare costs each year. Last year, the CDC reported that the number one driving factor of maternal death in the US are untreated mental health conditions. We must do better.
What distinct value does your work bring to the digital health field?
A critical component of our model is partnering with OBGYNs and other specialized providers to close the gap around untreated maternal mental health conditions. Our collaborative care model meets patients where they are and offers an example of how digital health companies can partner with in-person providers to drive better outcomes and improve the overall patient experience.
How does your work impact your target end-users or stakeholders?
Our specialized care model drives best in class patient outcomes: 88% of our patients felt better after completing the Seven Starling program.
What is one exciting update or near-term opportunity that you would like to share with the digital health community?
Seven Starling is currently supporting patients across five states including DC, Virginia, Maryland, Texas, and NY. Our near-term focus is on continued geographic and insurance coverage expansion with plans to launch in 5-8 additional states in the next year and begin accepting Medicaid.
