How Rock Health portfolio companies are responding to COVID-19
During this unprecedented time, we at Rock Health are incredibly heartened to see so many companies and individuals step up to the plate in what is proving to be a defining moment for digital health. Digital solutions are enabling communication, surveillance, diagnostics, treatment, and expanded capacity when healthcare needs it most.
Our portfolio companies have jumped into action—here’s a look at just a few of the ways they’re supporting patients, providers, and researchers during the COVID-19 pandemic:
AgileMD’s clinical decision support tools are helping leading hospitals automate screening and manage pathways for COVID-19 cases—which is critical as protocols are rapidly changing with guidelines from the CDC. They’re offering their solution—including speedy integrations—free of charge to interested health systems.
Ambient Clinical Analytics is supporting hospitals in managing the surge in demand for ICU beds spurred by COVID-19. Ambient’s platforms are allowing hospitals and health systems to expand their ICU capabilities to beds across the hospital, monitoring patient location, treatment, and condition along the way.
Augmedix is expanding its capabilities to support clinicians who are on the front lines in respiratory urgent care clinics, telemedicine practices, and pop-up clinics, including parking lots and drive-through health services providing screenings. Their hands-free, remote documentation solution helps clinicians remain in their personal protective equipment and continue treating patients while minimizing exposure risk.
Benchling is providing resources for scientists who are researching the novel coronavirus and working to develop diagnostics, vaccines, and treatments. They’re compiling sequences, protocols, and other work shared by scientists for public use.
CancerIQ is helping genetic practices transition to virtual appointments by providing its software and telehealth services at no cost for programs seeking an immediate solution to continue to care for patients during this time.
ClinCapture is giving its electronic data capture (EDC) system at no cost to biopharma and diagnostic companies that are running clinical trials for COVID-19. ClinCapture will provide its Captivate EDC through the philanthropic Weidley’s Wish program, which normally provides EDC to nonprofit organizations conducting rare disease/orphan disease trials.
Collective Health put together an online resource to help keep everyone up to date with the rapidly evolving guidance at the national, state, and local levels. Collective’s Member Advocates are also hard at work answering members’ questions about their coverage, paying for testing and treatment, and arranging for home delivery of medications.
Doctor on Demand created an online assessment tool for COVID-19 based on CDC guidelines, and their doctors are available 24/7 over video to evaluate individual risk. In April, Doctor on Demand partnered with the state of Massachusetts to provide free telemedicine visits to uninsured and Medicaid residents.
Elemental Machines is providing two months of free lab monitoring for biotech and research facilities. Unlike many industries, lab scientists cannot simply “work from home.” Elemental Machines is helping ensure science does not stop because biotechs are unable to run their experiments or get into a lab.
Enzyme is offering free regulatory and quality support for companies pioneering new methods for the diagnosis or treatment of COVID-19. Specifically, Enzyme is providing a free consulting session regarding Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) filings with FDA, free onboarding and two months of free access to Enzyme’s cloud-based electronic Quality Management System (eQMS) platform, and free access to the Enzyme Community with educational material and regulatory how-to’s.
Evidation launched a nationwide study to track the attitudes, behaviors, and overall health of Americans during the course of the pandemic. Over 140K people from all 50 states and the District of Columbia have agreed to participate and were recruited in less than four days from the nearly 4M people who use Evidation’s Achievement app—the largest, most diverse virtual research site in the US.
Honor is implementing enhanced protocols and new policies to help families mitigate infection exposure among older adults and their caregivers.
Kit Check is helping hospitals keep track of inventory, location, and usage of medications—including those being explored as possible treatments for COVID-19, such as hydroxychloroquine. As some hospitals see hoarding or reckless prescriptions of these drugs, Kit Check’s medication tracking and diversion risk assessment solutions empower hospital pharmacists and staff to make sure these potentially life-saving medications get to the patients who really need them.
Labdoor is fighting misinformation about supplements and COVID-19. The team is working to keep consumers informed about the risk of taking supplements to prevent or cure the disease. Additionally, Labdoor’s founders are deeply involved as leaders in the volunteer-powered, open-source 1 Million Ventilators Project.
Marigold Health is offering its chat support groups free of charge for three months—including implementation of a branded app and an unlimited number of users—to organizations that deliver substance use disorder (SUD) services to Medicaid and other vulnerable persons. Customized rollout takes less than a week!
Omada Health is offering its offering its mental health program for stress, anxiety, and depression at no cost for the next six months to all US-based employers and commercial health plans. These organizations, and their covered populations, will have access to behavioral health coaching powered by Omada’s technology to provide real human support and teach techniques that reduce symptoms.
Podimetrics is helping high-risk diabetic patients stay safe at home by providing remote patient monitoring and resources for foot care to prevent diabetic amputations.
Reify Health is providing its StudyTeam clinical trial enrollment platform free of cost to any life science companies researching vaccines, treatments, and/or diagnostics related to COVID-19. The platform—which substantially reduces the time it takes to enroll patients into phase 1 through 3 trials—is already free for all research sites.
Sitka is offering its secure video messaging telehealth platform to provider groups, enabling them to send personalized messages about COVID-19 precautions to their patients. As elective practices close, Sitka is also deploying its virtual specialty network to primary care providers across the country.
Spire Health’s respiratory remote patient monitoring service is being used by pulmonologists and critical care specialists to help care for their patients while keeping them safely at home. Spire is offering discounts and free remote setup for new practices.
Stride put together a resource guide for independent workers, which includes aggregated and regularly updated information for contract workers employed by companies like Lyft, DoorDash, and Care.com—as well as information by state for COVID-19 Special Enrollment Periods to get health insurance coverage.
Studio Dental is partnering with Carbon Health to provide on-site COVID-19 testing to at-risk communities in California. Studio Dental will turn its mobile dental clinics into testing trailers with tests from Abbott Laboratories, which offer same-day results.
Virta Health is compiling resources that answer important questions for people living with type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases—a population at increased risk for serious complications related to COVID-19. Additionally, Virta Health’s clinical staff is aiding patients beyond diabetes reversal—from simple tasks like refilling prescriptions when a patient’s PCP office is closed, to complex challenges like helping manage feelings of isolation and anxiety as the pandemic unfolds.
Welkin is offering an exclusive, integrated telehealth package in their Care Management Platform so that care teams can better connect with patients during COVID-19.
Wildflower launched a virtual visit product to help obstetrics (OB) practices more effectively deliver virtual visits for their prenatal and postpartum patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The software for Wildflower’s virtual visit product will be available directly to OB practices at no cost.
Many of these resources are generously being offered for free—please share this information widely with those who may benefit.
