A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Personal Health Data Galaxy
2025 is shaping up to be a galactic year for digital consumer health devices and personal tracking. In the past few weeks, Superpower raised $30M to combine at-home testing, personal health record storage, and wearable data for tailored health guidance, and Trellis launched an integrated personal health ecosystem for pregnant and postpartum women. Consumer tech brands including Amazon and Apple are doubling down on health feature rollouts and competing to launch AI advisors based on personal health data. All the while, new types of biomarkers and consumer-facing health devices are gaining clinical validity—which means that the bounds of personal health ecosystems are continuing to expand.
Like other interstellar initiatives, the growing galaxy of personal health data comes with its own set of risks. Privacy, security, and responsible management of personal health data are top of mind, and situations like 23andMe’s bankruptcy highlight how precarious consumer data ownership can be. Our 2024 Consumer Adoption of Digital Health Survey suggests that fewer consumers than ever want to share their health data with traditional healthcare stakeholders. It remains to be seen whether market disruptors or new initiatives will earn their trust.
Join Rock Health Advisory for a webinar on Thursday, May 22, at 9AM PT / 12PM ET, where we'll explore insights from our latest consumer adoption survey. We’ll be joined by leaders from Samsung, ŌURA, SCAN Health, Calm, and CVS Health for three conversations, each focused on building for a specific generational archetype.
