Trouble at Verily? | Apple’s latest healthcare efforts
While Verily, Google's medical moonshot hit some turbulence, Apple made a bunch of healthcare bets last week. Nearly 12 months (and 100K study participants) after ResearchKit’s launch, Apple announced CareKit—an open-source framework for hospitals and developers to build apps that allow patients to better track and understand their disease. The platform also launched with some impressive healthcare partners (including our own Iodine.)
While patients control how their data is shared—including genetic data (which can now be imported thanks to 23andMe), Apple’s health initiatives are perhaps the best argument yet for strong encryption.
