Rural roots in digital health

Virtual care has deep roots in rural America. According to Rock Health’s Consumer Adoption Survey, virtual care use grew 16 percentage points among rural respondents between 2020-2023, driven by COVID-19 telehealth expansion as well as the growth of digital services specifically designed for rural communities. Innovators building digital health solutions that effectively and sustainably address rural care gaps are doing so with a deep understanding of the unique cultural and infrastructural contexts of these communities. Their approaches center respect for local health traditions and consumer needs, collaboration with existing local care networks, and resolution of persistent connectivity challenges.
