The primary (care) race
The presidential election results are in—we’re staying tuned into early discussions on what may come for healthcare policy and regulation under a second Trump administration. In the meantime, we’ve got eyes on the primary—primary care, that is. Amazon One Medical recently launched co-located primary care clinics with Cleveland Clinic (though no news yet on whether this strategy will be applied to their other health system partnerships). Meanwhile, CVS Health became an in-network provider for Aetna plan members through its MinuteClinic expansion into primary care services. Optum also launched a primary care clinic in Arizona, highlighting its branded, rural healthcare presence. With fresh CMS approval of new advanced primary care codes, it is likely that innovative primary care models will continue to emerge. We’ll keep watch as incumbents and emerging players redefine what primary care and access look like.
